Collaborative Summer Library Program:
Dream Big-Read!
We are doing nighttime storytimes this week, so I thought I would share a few things you might be able to use this summer. These flannels are by various members of our staff-one of them a former art teacher.
Moongame by Frank Asch
This is the first flannelboard story I made when I started at the library eight years ago--and it still one of my favorites. Bear needs someone to play with and asks the moon to play hide and seek. (One of my top three tips for a successful flannel: hide something)
First bear hides from moon (bear is hiding under a paper flap glued onto the felt tree). When it is moon's turn to hide, the wind blows a cloud over it. Bear searches for moon.... in the tree, behind the rocks, in the house... but he cannot find moon. Just as bear gives up, the wind blows the cloud away and moon comes out.
Another of my top three tips for a successful flannel; a little glitter goes a long way (the same can be said for googly eyes).
Nocturne by Jane Yolen
This story is done with the storytelling apron. I don't tell this one myself so I don't have any tips, but I just had to share this work of art.
And don't forget the sequins....
Time to Sleep by Denise Fleming
Hibernating may be a stretch for summer, but here it is. I love the toothpick whiskers on the beaver and the yarn spiral on the snail.
Bugs in a Rug
The patterns and a cute "5 Littel Bugs" fingerplay appeared in an issue of Mailbox Magazine. Unfortunately, I cannot track down which issue. At the end of the fingerplay, the bugs are snug all rolled up in the rug. I love the "bug hiding under the rug" game on Mel's Desk.
